Bleaching and Dyeing – an important process!

All towels must be dyed pure white before it is dyed any colour. Once the towels are weaved, it is one long terry cloth roll and has no beginning or end, it is wound on an off-loom take-up reel. Towels are then sent for bleaching as huge rolls and put into a water bath with bleaching chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, and other proprietary ingredients. The heat from high temperature makes the chemicals react, bleaching the towel.

If towels are to be dyed, the large, dried uncut rolls are taken to large vats of chemical dyes, which have proven over time to provide colourfast towels after extensive residential laundering. After being immersed in the vat, the towels are removed and pressed between two heavy rollers which force the dye down into the towels. A thorough steaming sets the colour. The towels are again steam-dried, fluffed in the drying process.

Classic Dobby Border Towels

Dobby cloth includes a wide variety of fabrics in which dobby weave is used to give the cloth a texture. The dobby border can be differentiated from other fancy borders because of its weave. You can make any plain towel fancy with the dobby border, may it be hand towels, some dishtowels and washcloths. On a towel, the dobby border does not actually border the towel. Instead it is usually set in the towel about an inch or two from the bottom and top of the towel. Often the border is the same colour as the towel, but you might find towels with a dobby border of a different colour. Alternately, the border may feature stripes, geometric designs, or patterns that give the towel a little extra decorative touch

Dobby weaving machines or looms raise or lower the warp threads that make up the longwise direction of the cloth to create its unique texture. Dobby cloth weaving patterns can include simple stripes, squares or diamonds, as well as more intricate patterns such as swirls, insignias and even any object of your interest. You may find several stripes of flat weave on a towel, representing the dobby border. This is a common variation of the single stripe.

Bath towels are most often used for drying the body and hair after washing, especially after using bathtubs or quick showers Bath towels may be of different sizes in different countries around the world, most common sizes are 70x140cm for bath towels and 100x150cm for Bath Sheets, which are Super Size / Jumbo Size. These are usually both longer and wider, which may be more comfortable for adults of more than average size. Different countries have got different sizes requirements.

Bath Towels are manufactured using different kind of yarn. Yarn such as combed cotton yarn gives you a softer feel and longer life. Normally towels are rectangular in shape and are available in different borders, colours and sizes, border can be dobby or jacquard.

Importance of the Quality of Cotton Yarn

Quality of yarn is an important factor when it comes towel manufacturing. Towel manufacturers randomly check for weight and stick to the standard established by the company. Normally the yarn specifications are 16/s, 20/d,24d etc. and the yarn types include, open end, ring spun, combed, Egyptian cotton, etc.

During weaving the weavers and the quality inspectors monitor the towel for weaving imperfections. Slightly unevenly woven towels may be straightened out and touched up and the imperfect ones are completely rejected.

As in all aspects of the process, visual checks are a key to quality control and all those involved in the process understand minimum standards and monitor the product at all times.

In the process of bleach and dye vats are periodically checked for appropriate chemical constitution. Colour variation must be checked and kept under control, and it should be ensured, that whatever was required is produced before shipped out.
